THE SECRET.
MAJORICA SINCE 1890: THE ART OF CREATING JEWELLERY AND THE WORLD´S ONLY ORGANIC PEARLS
In 1890, on the Spanish island of Majorca, Majorica invented the unique and delicate production process of organic pearls, which mirrors that of cultured pearls.
The Majorica pearl is made of an opaline crystal nucleus coated in multiple fine layers with the “pearl essence”, an extract obtained from the Majorica secret processing technique of natural organic elements of the Mediterranean Sea. Its complex formula reproduces the iridescence, beauty, resistance and perfection of the finest natural pearls.
After being polished and hand-selected one by one, the Majorica pearl is specially treated to protect it from external aggressions such as perfume, and shocks, achieving unique levels of quality and resistance. All Majorica pearls have a 10-year warranty.

Natural Pearls
As their name indicates, these are a phenomenon produced entirely by Mother Nature. They are formed when a foreign body is introduced accidentally inside an oyster. This irritant presence causes a reaction by the oyster which, by way of defence, segregates a pearly substance which slowly covers the foreign body.
Over several years a pearl will form which is perfect in colour, iridescence, lustre, texture and shape, and which is of great economic value.
If we were to take half a natural pearl and observe it under a microscope, we would see that the nucleus of the foreign body is almost imperceptible and that the pearly substance, which covers the body, forms several layers spreading out from the centre towards the outer surface.
Natural pearls are now practically non-existent and are of incalculable value. For this reason the majority of "natural" pearls we find in jewellers shops are in fact "cultivated pearls".Cultivated Pearls
These are the result of experiments carried out by the Japanese during the XIX Century. In 1913, the Japanese Mikimoto, achieved the technique of cultivated pearl’s creation.
They are produced by provoking the pearly secretion of the oyster by artificially introducing a man-made nucleus. During the first decade of the century, the nucleus made up 5% of the total size of the pearl, nowadays it exceeds 90% of the total diameter. Oysters need between a period of one year and a half and 3 years to produce the most beautiful pearls. As a result of growing demand, many cultivators are now drastically reducing the production time of the oyster to months. The end result is lower-priced pearls but also poorer quality, with reduced surface cover thickness, greater diameter of the nucleus and greater predisposition to oxidation or to having surface defects
Organic pearls: Only MAJORICA.
Just like the oyster, MAJORICA pearls use organic procedures and components which are present in nature. Using the most innovative technology and a closely guarded secret process, MAJORICA has achieved "the perfect pearl" in colour, sheen, lustre, texture and strength.
Researches in gemmological laboratories have provided conclusive proof: MAJORICA pearls are remarkably similar to good quality cultivated pearls.
Just perfection. Only MAJORICA pearls.
Strict manufacturing standards are applied to the creation of MAJORICA pearls. Using a process similar to that of the oyster, a nucleus of opaline, which is rather like alabaster, is covered with multiple coats of pearl essence. This essence is what gives the pearl its unique lustre and magnificent iridescence. After applying each layer of organic bath, the pearls are carefully polished to remove any imperfections. To successfully complete the entire process, the pearl is subjected to the strictest quality controls to confirm the colour fastness, sheen and iridescence of the pearl and its resistance to any harmful external agents.
Imitation pearls
Common materials such as glass or plastic, covered with four or five layers of chemical products, are usually used to create the nucleus. Obviously these do not have iridescence or resistance, generally contain imperfections, have an unnatural colour and are low priced.
You have to be aware of imitations of Majorica’s Pearls. Majorica is a registred brand reflecting our outstanding quality. Refuse similar names as Majorca, Mallorque or Mallorca.
CARE OF PEARLS.
Taking care of Majorica pearls and jewellery
MAJORICA pearls should be treated with the same love and care as natural pearls. To do this, simply follow some simple rules that will protect and maintain them in good condition over the years:
- We recommend you take your MAJORICA necklaces and bracelets to an Official Agency every eight years in order to change the silver bead and the thread, preferably with a knot between each pearl, to avoid tearing, breaking and losing the pearls.
- Never clean pearls or jewellery with chemicals or abrasives. If you notice that the beads are dirty from use, simply wash them with warm water and neutral soap, spreading them out on a flat surface for at least 48 hours so that the thread can dry out properly. Wash jewels too with warm water and neutral soap, drying them immediately with a soft cloth.
- Pearls deserve special care to preserve them when not in use. It is advisable to keep them in their case, separate from other jewellery or other metallic objects. That is why all MAJORICA jewellery is supplied in cases which provide proper protection during travel.
With these simple rules, we assure you that your MAJORICA jewellery will stay beautiful forever.
